Bhopal: The Central Government approved in principle the construction of 5,987-km national highway the first phase Bharatmala Yojana in Madhya Pradesh. The National Highway Authorities of India (NHAI) construct the four-lane roads, and the work includes construction of bypasses in Jabalpur, Sagar, Gwalior and Orchha.
Besides, the construction of Bhopal-Indore six-lane expressway and south-west part of Bhopal bypass under has been sanctioned in principal under the Bharatmala Yojana. The cost of the expressway will be Rs 4,000 crore. The Consultant Company has been selected to make a Detailed Project Report (DPR) on this work.
Electronic toll collection
The public works department has made arrangements for an electronic toll collection on the Bhopal-Dewas road so that vehicles may not have to wait for long at toll booths. Process is on to make arrangement for electronic toll collection in the remaining routes also in the state. There is a provision to take injured accident victims to the nearest health care centre for first aid. PWD is making efforts to strengthen this arrangement.
