A 50-year-old man was caught red-handed while trying to rape a minor girl, here on Monday. His act was however spotted by a woman who raised alarm and locals caught him and handed him over to police. According to the police the 30-year-old complainant woman is the mother of the seven-year-old survivor of the incident. The accused lives with his sister, as his wife along with children has separated from him due to his bad habits as he used to thrash them under the influence of liquor.
The woman told police that on Monday afternoon around 3pm, she had gone to work when the accused lured her daughter by offering her a chocolate and took her to his sister’s home. The accused was spotted by a woman in the neighbourhood in a partially naked state with the girl child, after which she raised an alarm.
Soon the locals gathered at the spot and after thrashing the accused they handed him over to police. We have booked the accused under relevant IPC sections of attempt to rape and have arrested him. The accused has confessed to the crime and on Tuesday he was produced in the court from where he was sent to jail, said a police officer.
