Bhopal: The total seasonal rainfall in MP is 937 millimetres and till it has received only 660 millimetres of rains. Rains in this Monsoon season have been inadequate as far as filling up of the 241 reservoirs which fulfil the irrigation and drinking water requirements of people in MP.
Water in more than 50 per cent of reservoirs in the state is currently at less than half way mark. While, only 50 tanks are filled to 90 per cent of their capacity. Among the prominent reservoirs: Indira Sagar is filled up to 26 percents, Rani Avanti Bai Sagar (Bargi) 62 percent, Kolar dam is filled just 36 percent, Retam Barrage of Mandsaur and Kharak tank in Khargon district is filled to 100 percent.
Situation is worse in Bundelkhand and Baghelkhand region which is still waiting for good monsoon rains. According to metrological department in Western MP, which has an average rainfall of 723.3 mm, has till Sunday received 667.6 mm of rains.
Eastern MP has registered 690.1 mm rains till Sunday, while its average rainfall is 803.4 mm. Districts of Eastern and Western MP including Betul, Bhind, Burhandpur, Datia, Dewas, Khandwa, Nimuch are equally facing shortfall of rain, Huge deficit in rains have also been reported from districts like Balaghat, Anooppur, Chhindwara, Dindori, Paana, Sagar, Satna, Seoni Shahdol among others.
