Bhopal: Forty two Sindhi refugees have been given certificates of Indian citizenship on Friday. ADM Santosh Verma distributed certificates. Now their children can apply for citizenship. Sindhi Samaj representatives were present on this occasion.
Ex-principal secretary Vidhan Sabha Bhagwandas Ishrani said, “It is a big initiative from district administration and now it will help others. In 2016, government of India delegated the powers to 16 collectors of the country to decide on citizenship of refugees who had come from Pakistan. In MP, Indore and Bhopal collectors have been delegated the powers.
This initiative will clear decks for the others refugees for citizenship. Now they need not to renew their Visa and other documents otherwise, earlier, they used to live in tension. They had to verify documents to police all the time.” Sindhi Samaj vice president Mohit Shevani said, “Sindhi Samaj thanks district administration for distribution citizenship to 42 refugees who had come from Pakistan.”
