Bhopal: 4 kids, driver dead & 9 HURT as DPS bus collides with truck

Bhopal: Four students of Delhi Public School along with driver were killed when their school bus collided head on with truck on Bypass Road on Friday evening. Nine other students were seriously injured in the accident and were undergoing treatment in Bombay Hospital. The police have blamed ‘steering failure’ of the bus as the reason behind the mishap. Attempts to contact DPS principal and administrator failed despite repeated attempts.

Kanadiya police station in-charge ML Chouhan told Free Press that incident occurred around 4pm on Bhicholi Hapsi over bridge on Bypass Road. He said that as the bus was moving towards Rau, its steering suddenly failed. As a result, the bus jumped road-divider and collided with a truck moving toward Dewas Naka.

One of the locals present on the scene, Santosh Rathore said that front portion of the bus completely damaged due to the collision impact. He said that truck driver tried to evade collision but in vain as the bus was moving at a high speed. Front portion of the truck too was damaged.
It was the locals, who rushed to the aide of wailing children and informed the police. They also assisted in rescuing children from the mangled bus.

Businessman Bhvendra Dungarwala, who rescued a few kids, said that front portion of the bus was completely destroyed and police had tough time rescuing the children. Injured children, driver and cleaner were rushed to hospital in ambulance other buses of the school. The children killed in the mishap were identified as Shruti Ludhianvi (6), Kriti Agrawal (14), Khushi alias Harmeet (10), Swastik Pandya (10) and bus driver Rahul Sisodiya (30).

The injured children were identified as Ishira Qureshi, Bhumi Bajaj, Parth, Ariva Qureshi, Somil Ahuja, Devik, Shivang Chawla, Khushi Bajaj and cleaner Kalyan Singh alias Ballu. Family members and relatives of the children reached Bombay Hospital soon after receiving the news. Mayor Malini Gaud, MLA Ramesh Mendola, Jitu Patwari and Pankaj Sanghvi too visited the hospital.

Schools closed in indore today: Association of Unaided CBSE Schools announce that affiliated schools of Indore will remain closed in view of the tragic incident. In a press release, association president Anil Dhupar said that schools will remain closed for a day (January 6) as mark of respect to the departed souls.
