BHOPAL: Third phase of polling for 8 Lok Sabha constituencies passed peacefully barring a few stray incidents of minor violence in Bhind constituency. Fate of senior leaders like Digvijaya Singh, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Narendra Singh Tomar, Ramniwas Rawat and others were sealed in EVMs on Sunday. Voting percentage reached 65% which is expected to rise more with final conclusion. Lowest voting was reported from Bhind (53.09%) while in Rajgarh recorded highest voter turnout with 73.45% polling.
Gwalior region has traditionally reported low voting- the trend continued this lok sabha as well. While Bhind had a 53.09% voter turnout, Morena had 60.67% and in Gwalior only 59.60% voters exercised their franchise. In Bhopal the voters’ turnout was 66.33 %. MP CEO VL Kantha Rao informed that during mock poll EVMs were changed at 312 polling booths.
Overall, 147 Ballot Unit (BU), 34 Control Unit (CU) and 295 VVPAT were found faulty. Later during polling, EVMs were replaced at 102 polling booths that include 49 BU, 34 CU and 102 VVPAT. CEO Rao admitted that there were reports of boycotting elections from Ajitpura village of Sumaoli in Morena constituency.
