Thirty-five commuters onboard a Bhopal City Link Limited’s (BCLL) floor bus (TR-4) had a narrow escape after the bus caught fire at RRL Trisection on Thursday. The bus was travelling from Mandideep to Gandhi Nagar. Driver immediately stopped the bus when he noticed smoke from engine at Veer Sawarkar Setu (Habibganj Railway over Bridge).
Bus and conductors doused the fire from road side dust before fire fighters reached the spot. BCLL public relations officer Sanjay Soni said, “It seems like a mechanism related problem. Most probably, filter caught fire in engine side in bus but it will become clear after investigation.” He added, “Noticing smoke and flame, driver immediately stopped bus and told all 35 passengers to get down. Driver and conductor took prompt initiative and evacuated the bus immediately.”
Officials claimed that a mechanism related issue cause behind fire. They alleged that filter might have caught fire in engine side but it will be established in investigation. However, passengers blamed administration over poor maintenance of the buses. The alleged that most of the buses are in bad condition. They need proper maintenance.
