Bhopal: 24-year-old man held with syringes, banned drugs

Bhopal: The police on Saturday arrested a 24-year-old man accused of possessing about 150 injections of a banned drug under Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Shahjahanabad here. The police have taken him into remand after presenting him before the court and investigations are on to find the source of the seized drugs.

According to the police, identified Rahul Malviya of Chola Mandir locality, accused was arrested near TB Hospital in Koh-e-Fiza on Saturday evening. On searching him, they found about 75 injections of Buprenorphine drug along with 80 injections of Pheniramine Maleate (AVIL). All the seized injections were of 2ml quantity. Apart from the drug-filled injections, they also found about 50 syringes of injections from his possession.

Earlier many empty syringes were found in now demolished Bhoot Bangla at Shahjahanabad which had raised suspicion that anti-social elements were taking drugs in the area. Apart from this, during investigations of loot and burglary in localities of Shahjanabad and Koh-e-Fiza, it was found that the accused committed crimes under influence of some syringe-infused drugs, the police added.

Speaking to Free Press, station house officer, Shahjanabad, Manish Mishra said the police after getting constant inputs about drug abusers in the area, launched an operation to nab the suppliers and buyers of the banned drugs. This arrest was a part of that. During the initial interrogations the accused told the police that he used to sell the two drugs together as they were meant to be taken in a combination,” said Mishra adding after receiving remand from the court, the police were now interrogating him to know the source of the drugs and the possible involvement of other people in this crime.

Buprenorphine and Pheniramine Maleate have been listed in Schedule 1 of banned psychotropic substances under the NDPS Act.
