Farmers who had honestly paid back their agricultural loans till March 2018 will now reap the benefit. State government has now decided to include such 2.28 lakh farmers in its loan waiver scheme. A large section of farmers were annoyed with Kamal Nath government’s decision to waive off loans taken till March 31, 2018. These were the farmers who had repaid their loans but had taken another agricultural loan after March 31. They had a feeling of being cheated upon for their honesty by the state government.
Later the date for loan waiver eligibility was extended to June 15 but these farmers remained out of the category. Now the state government has decided to waive off their loans as well. There are around 2.28 lakh such farmers. Congress rode to state assembly on promise of waiving off loans up to Rs 2 lakh of farmers.
The first order that Kamal Nath signed after assuming CM’s office was of loan waiver. Around 50 lakh farmers were to benefit from the loan waiver scheme. Till date 22.84 lakh farmers had benefited from the scheme, claims government. The farmers whose loans could not be waived off till date due to implementation of model code of conduct will be continued after elections.
