BHOPAL: Crime branch police claimed to have nabbed one person for his involvement with the betting ring related to the Indian Premiere League (IPL) cricket tournament in Old Sindhi Colony area on Saturday. The police said that the accused has been identified as Jackie Rajdev aka Jay (34), a resident of Sindhi Colony area in Teelajamalpura. An LED TV, two mobile phones, betting receipt and Rs 5,550 in cash were also claimed to have been recovered. Receipts of betting amounting lakhs, was also recovered from his possession.
The accused was nabbed while he was placing bets on the ongoing IPL cricket match between Mumbai Indians and Sun Risers Hyderabad. Several contacts have been recovered from the house which could help in unearthing the other accomplice who were involved in operating the nexus. In the initial investigation, he has confessed that his role is to forward the details of people placing bets on IPL matches to a bookie of Lalghati area in Koh-e-Fiza.
It has come to fore that the links of these bookies is connected to a Dubai-based betting caucus. It is suspected his accomplices managed to escape from the spot, during raid. Meanwhile further details would be searched from mobile phones of people involved in placing bets and accepting bets could be found. Police have registered a case under the gambling Act and have started an investigation.
