BHOPAL: Gunjan Pant, a well-known Bhojpuri actor, was in the city of lakes on Thursday.

Hailing from Nainital (Uttarakhand), Gunjan grew up in Bhopal. She did her Bachelors from the local Nutan College. She has worked in many TV serials including ‘Chaudah Phere’ (DD), ‘Zindagi Ek Safar’ (DD), ‘Chacha Chaudhary’ (Sahara), ‘Chandramukhi’ (DD), ‘Karam Apna Apna’ (Balaji), ‘Kalpana’ (DD), and ‘Suryapuraan’ But Bhojpuri films and serials are her forte.

Talking to media persons here on Thursday, Pant shared her experiences and talked about how, despite Bhojpuri not being her native language, she is today known as a Bhojpuri artist.

“I have worked in around 50 Bhojpuri movies till now. Though working in Bollywood movies is everyone’s dream but I got so much love and affection from the Bhojpuri film industry and I was so busy doing Bhojpuri movies that never thought of doing anything else. But now I am thinking in the terms of working in Bollywood movies”.

“During my college days, I wanted to be cardiac specialist but due to some family problems, I had to take admission in Nutan College. At that time, I never thought that someday I would become an actor.

I got an offer to work in a music album and I did it without thinking”.

On being asked about vulgarity in Bhojpuri songs, Pant says, “Yes, it’s true that nowadays double entendres are being used with impunity in Bhojpuri songs. Those who want a short-cut to name and fame are doing such thing. But I think what sets Bhojpuri cinema apart is its focus on the culture and traditions of the Bhojpur region of Bihar”.

Bhojpuri film director Vinod Tiwari, who was also present at the press conference said that “City-based young artists can now showcase their singing, dancing and acting talent under the banner of MP Film and TV Institute. And for this an audition is going in around 20 cities. The selected actor would get a chance to work in two movies ‘Premyudh’ and ‘The Narsimha’.

The movies would be in Bhojpuri and Awadhi languages and would be shot entirely in Madhya Pradesh. There is no fees for taking part in the audition and I hope that a large number of youngsters would take advantage of them”.
