BHOPAL :  With the Central Bureau of Investigations taking Vypaam scam into its hands, all eyes are set on the stand the investigation agency will take regarding those who were spared by the STF. Although names of many influential persons emerged during investigations but they were not touched. The CBI is unlikely to accept the report prepared by STF as it is. There are huge variations in the reports prepared by Special Investigation Team (SIT) and Special Task Force (STF) regarding Union Minister for Water Resources Uma Bharati and Vyapam former Chairperson Ranjana Chaudhary. SIT had written to STF to file FIR against the both.

STF refused to file FIR against them saying that there was not enough evidence. After CBI getting task of investigation in the scam, its stand on Bharati and Chaudhary would be something to watch for. Uma’s name surfaced in the Excel Sheet extracted from the hard disk of accused System Analyst Nitin Mohindra. Accused and former Controller Pankaj Trivedi had mentioned in his recorded statements that Uma made recommendations for appointment of contractual teachers. Mahindra in his statements to STF alleged that Trivedi had given them those names saying that they were recommended by Uma Bharati. Despite all these evidences, STF did not quiz Uma for two years. Former Director General of Police Nandan Dubey had visited Uma’s place to give her a clean chit.

All these facts may be probed by the CBI. Trivedi, in his statements, alleged that he gave Rs 42 lakh to Chaudhary. STF, when pressurised by SIT on the basis of Trivedi’s statement, quizzed Chaudhary but made her a prosecution witness. It is said that CBI probe may create problems for Chaudhary. During interrogations of agents, the name of Vyapam’s former controller Sudhir Bhadoria had also emerged. Police SIT, Gwalior has registered an FIR against Bhadoria but he was neither arrested nor quizzed. There are speculations that Bhadoria enjoys political patronage which is helping him evade arrest. The fate of Uma, Ranjana and Bhadoria is now in the hands of CBI.
