BHOPAL : Minister for higher education Jaibhan Singh Pawaiya said after Swami Vivekananda, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given global identity to India.
Pawaiya was addressing a function at Barkatullah University on Saturday to mark the birth anniversary of Hindi poet Ramdhari Singh Dinkar and 125th anniversary of Swami Vivekanand’s address in Chicago.
Pawaiya said, “125 years back, the American newspapers had published the photographs of Swami Vivekananda when he delivered his famous speech in Chicago. And since then, for the first time, the world media is talking about another Indian; our Prime Minister Narendra Modi”. It is a matter of pride for all of us, he added.
According to Pawaiya, Swami Vivekananda and Mahatma Gandhi were committed to improving the life of people in the country. It was their love for the country and their commitment to making India a better place to live in that inspired them to work hard.
Modi, he said, has devoted his life for country to make India the world leader. The country is marching on the road to progress and this is something we all should take pride in.
He said that India will become a ‘Vishwaguru’ not due to its military might but because of its culture, traditions and lofty thoughts.
He said merely raising slogans of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Vande Mataram” won’t work. “We should understand the real meaning of these slogans and work for the nation,” Pawaiya remarked.
He also advised students to read the works of Dinkar and Swami Vivekananda and draw lessons from them.
Those present on the occasion included Member of Parliament Alok Sanjar, vice-chancellor Pramod Kumar Verma, IRS officer Abhay Kumar Singh, Vishwa Bharati Shanti Niketan Professor Subhash Rai Chandra and Barkatullah University registrar Uday Narayan Shukla.
