BHOPAL : The Govindpura police have registered a case against a doctor practicing in a private hospital in Delhi on the charges of demanding dowry and harassment on the complaint of his doctor wife, a resident of Gautam Nagar. The accused husband and his family hail from Jabalpur. The police, after registering a case on zero, have forwarded the case diary to Jabalpur for further investigations. Currently, the complainant was pursuing post-graduate course in medicine from a private university.
Investigation officer SI S Rai said that the complainant Dr Ekta Jain, 33, resident of MIG-175 Gautam Nagar, in her complaint to the police stated that she did her MBBS from the city and was currently pursuing MD.
Her marriage was solemnised with Dr Navneet Jain, son of Dayal Chandra Jain, resident of Jabalpur, in Jabalpur on May 15, 2015. Her father, a retired employee, spent Rs 10 lakh on the marriage ceremony. Rs 7.5 lakh in cash was given to the groom’s family, besides a Honda City car worth around Rs 10 lakh and jewellery and other gifts worth Rs 10 lakh.
After her marriage she was staying at Jabalpur. Subsequently, Navneet went to Delhi to take up a job. Thereafter, her in-laws, including her mother-in-law Vimla Jain and sister-in-law Pushpalata Jain started torturing her, demanding Rs 20 lakh in cash for opening a nursing home for Navneet.
Navneet supported his mother and sister. When the atmosphere of the house became unbearable, she left the place and returned to her parents’ home in Bhopal and took up post graduation.
SI Rai said that the police, following her complaint, had registered a case under sections 498 A and 34 of the IPC against the three accused and transferred it to Jabalpur.
