Bhopal: Over 50 villagers sustained severe injuries in a police lathicharge at Naubasta under Naubasta Chowky in Rewa on Saturday.Police resorted to lathicharge after an accident in which three people died and over 12 suffered injuries.

According reports, a bus, belonging to Jaypee Group, hit a three- wheeler, killing three persons and injuring 12. Just after the accident, villagers took to the streets and demanded immediate arrest of the accused responsible for the accident and adequate compensation.

When police resorted to lathicharge, the protestors damaged over 100 vehicles.Hundreds of villagers gheraoed all the five gates of the factory in support of the demands.

The CPM condemned the lathicharge and its secretary Badal Saroj said, “ We demand action against police officials for the lathicharge in which over 50 villagers were injured. We also demand not to misuse police force for the benefit of the corporate sectors.” He said, “ The factory bus hit a three- wheeler carrying passengers. While two of the passengers died on the spot, the other lost his life on way to hospital. Then, the family members demonstrated peacefully and villagers supported it.” “ The factory management had almost finalised Rs 5 lakh and a job to the next of kin of the deceased,” he said.
