Poll percentage arecord 72.52

BHOPAL: A record 72.52 percent the 4.66 crore voters exercised their franchise in Monday’s polling for assembly elections in the State, according to final figures released by the election office. The turnout increased after polling parties of remote areas returned to district headquarters, to submit the figure and deposit EVMs, said official sources.

Election office, earlier, had received record of 71 percent turnout in the elections, incorporating 2.21 lakh postal ballots, used by government staff and security jawans, it reached 72.52 percent. Around 80 percent polling was registered through postal ballots.This includes 73.53 percent turnout of male voters and 69.77 percent turnout of female voters.

The turnout is 3.52 percent higher than the polls of 2008.CEO Jaideep Govind said, “ The absolute number of voters as well as turnout in percent, both gone up in this election. It was 69 percent turnout, of 3.50 crore voters in 2008 Assembly polls and now it is 72.52 percent of 4.66 crore voters.” Nearly, 70 lakh new voters cast their vote in the elections.
