BHOPAL : Over 50 employees of the anti-encroachment squad of Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) were injured, five of them seriously, in stoned pelting at Ashoka Garden on Wednesday. A hawker Rajesh Tiwari tried to self-immolate by dousing himself kerosene.
BMC administration has lodged FIR against attackers Rajesh Tiwari, Arpit Tiwari and Rajesh Mehta and other family members for preventing government machinery from doing its job.
The BMC squad had gone to remove illegal hawker Corner and restaurant at Ashoka Garden under ward no-71 after Lokayukta complaint. Police had to resort lathi charge to disperse the mob and protesters. Earlier, BMC administration had given notices to Rajesh Tiwari who had assured the BMC team that he himself will remove the hawkers’ corner but later on when BMC team went to remove the restaurant and hawker corner, they attacked on the BMC team leaving many injured.
As per the police, BMC team had gone to remove dairy and restaurant of some Rajesh Tiwari. But family members protested and started stone pelting.
Rajesh Tiwari himself tried to immolate himself by pouring kerosene. Police somehow saved Rajesh Tiwari. BMC employees sustained injuries.
Rajesh Tiwari and others attacked BMC employees with lathis and rods. BMC employees led by anti-encroachment cell in-charge Qmar Saqib had gone to remove the hawker corners.
