Ratlam : Five new cars were gutted when a container carrying them caught fire as it fell into the Maleni River between the Ratlam-Jaora stretch on Ratlam-Neemuch road during wee hours on Tuesday. According to sources, the container was proceeding towards Haryana following Ratlam-Neemuch road and as it approached the Maleni river bridge it lost control and fell into the river.
Driver Abbas told police that he attempted to save another vehicle which was unduly overtaking his container and thus lost control of the vehicle which then fell into the river and caught fire. The incident occurred at around 3 am.
Abbas and cleaner Mustakim were trapped in the driver’s cabin and broke open the wind shield to come out from the mangled truck. They both got injured in the bid to escape. Police rushed them to Ratlam for treatment and also registered a case in the matter.
According to the police the container bearing the registration number HR 38 S 1933 was transporting new Hyundai cars to Haryana from Chennai.
