BHOPAL : Torrential rains lashed the state capital inundating most of the roads on Tuesday evening. Bhopal recorded 4 cm rainfall in just one hour.
Throughout the day, it continued to rain at isolated places but in the evening, it rained all over the city. The average rainfall of this month is 37.16 cm while it is 32.24 cm more than normal so far.
The torrential rain brought the city to standstill causing traffic jam like condition at many places like Jyoti Talkies, Court Chowk, Board Office, DB Mall, Banganga, Hamidia Road, Nadra Bus stand, Bhopal Talkies, Bharat Talkies, Yadgar-e-Shahjahani Park, Jahangirabad, Royal Market, Police Control Room, Chetak Bridge, Hoshangabad Road. Rainy water gushed all over the road triggering water logging posing problems disrupting traffic.
As per the meteorological department, rain and thundershowers are likely at Ujjain, Hoshangabad, Jabalpur divisions, Indore, Burhanpur, Khandwa, Dhar, Sehore, Bhopal, Sheopurkalan, Annupur and Dindori districts.
Warning has been given for heavy rain over Neemuch, Mandsaur, Guna, Sheopurkalan, Balaghat, Mandla, Seoni, Narsingpur, Damoh, Panna, Harda, Hoshangabad, and Raisen districts. July is the month when southwest monsoon has already set in the area. Sometime there are intermittent breaks in the rainy spells.
‘MPEB not cooperating with BMC’
There is lack of proper coordination between BMC administration and MPEB in Bhopal when the city already faced brunt of excessive rain. As per sources, MPEB never cooperates with BMC administration. Despite repeatedly complaints from BMC about shifting of unused poles from Hinautia nullaha, MPEB has not shifted so far. Secondly, if any complaint is lodged but just on the ground of different circle, MPEB staff do allegedly do not cooperate and guide by providing mobile number of concerning engineer of that specific circle. There are several incidences which exposed the proper coordination between BMC and MPEB at this crucial juncture.
