NGT orders 24X7 call centre to monitor complaints on sound pollution, marriage gardens
BHOPAL:The Bhopal bench of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), on Friday, ordered action against 25 marriage gardens violating pollution norms before June 10. It directed that the marriage gardens will remain closed till the corporation takes appropriate action in this regard.
If the Corporation successfully ensures that the marriage gardens start following the norms, then they can continue functioning. The NGT has ordered the marriage gardens to comply with the MSW rules 2000 and Plastic Waste Management and Rules 2001.
The NGT directed the state government to set up a 24×7 call centre where the people can file complaints regarding marriage gardens. Officials of the Pollution control board would visit the site in the next twenty-four hours and take action on the complaints.
The pollution control board has been instructed to conduct regular inspections of marriage gardens. Taking the problem of sound pollution seriously, the NGT has said that the sound pollution from religious places too will be banned. NGT has directed the education department to include lessons on sound pollution in school curricula.
It has also ordered that vehicles equipped with pressure horns should not be allowed to enter the city. The call centre, on receiving complaint regarding sound pollution, will forward it to SHO of the police station concerned. The SDM of the area would be made responsible to support in this matter.
