Besides its evident USP – namely that it offers seven seats in the segment, BR-V packs a lot more punch. Expected to launch in coming month, BR-V will compete in the compact SUV space of the country. The fight is against the hot-selling Hyundai Creta along with the upcoming facelifted Duster (https://www.cardekho.com/carmodels/Renault/Renault_Duster), amongst others. Except the Creta, none provides a decent and powerful petrol offering and an optional automatic is out of the question. BR-V is making its way over with a strong petrol and a new CVT automatic transmission developed by Honda.

Like the City, BR-V petrol will produce 119 PS @ 6600 rpm and 145 Nm @ 4600 rpm of max torque. Now, unlike City’s 5-speed manual unit, it comes mated to a 6-Speed manual transmission with a petrol motor. It will also offer a new CVT which Honda has developed. So you get the 6-Speed along with an automatic option with this petrol motor. Expect a fuel efficiency similar to that of the City, which will surely be one of the best in the segment. The diesel will be the 1.5-litre i-DTEC generating 100 PS @ 3600 rpm and 200 Nm @ 1750 rpm, mated to a 6-Speed manual.

Speaking of its looks, though the side profile subtly speaks to you of the Mobilio, however, BR-V manages to create its very own identity. The butch face and revised rear add a lot of character to it. Large 16-inch diamond cut wheels make it a little flamboyant. The new City/Jazz inspired dashboard makes the cabin premium when compared to the Brio-clan! We’ll have to wait and see how the market will respond to this new compact crossover from Honda. But, it does have a petrol advantage!
