During the 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi earlier this year, Indo-Brit carmaker Jaguar had divulged details about three new car models – the affordable XE sedan, a refreshed XF and the F-Pace SUV – that it had in its plans for India this year.

While the first launch for Jaguar took place in the form of the XE at the Auto Expo, it is now time for the luxury carmaker to get the ball rolling again with the updated XF. The car is set to be launched in India by the second half of August.

Replacing the current generation model, the car is based on a new platform, which makes use of aluminium for weight reduction as it now stands at 1,687kg. At 5.067mm, the new XF is also longer than its predecessor and is expected to be more spacious on the inside as a result of the 2,960mm wheelbase.

On the inside, the car’s dashboard has been redesigned and the steering wheel appears identical to the larger XJ. The seats look plusher and the fully loaded 10.2-inch InControl Touch Pro system, with 10GB of onboard storage, leads the feature list.

Minor cosmetic updates will include a larger piano black grille, a redesigned bumper and more prominent lines on the hood. The car will also get adaptive full LED headlights and LED taillights. The facelift also comes with newly designed, younger looking alloy wheels.

Under the hood, the XF is expected to be offered in both petrol and diesel engine options. The new 2.0-litre diesel unit, good for 180PS and 430Nm, will come mated to a ZF-sourced 8-speed automatic while the 2.0-litre petrol pot is set to be retained with its 240PS of power and 240Nm of torque.

Set to lock horns with the likes of the BMW 5-series, the Audi A6 and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, the next-gen Jaguar XF will demand a premium as compared to the current one, priced at around Rs 50 lakh.
