Showcased at this year’s Delhi Auto Expo, new Hyundai Tucson is all set to launch in the country on October 24, 2016. Keeping its promise made during the expo, to launch the premium SUV this year, Hyundai’s timing has been spot on. At a time when the festive season will be at its peak, the Tucson’s launch is likely to give the South Korean automaker the much needed thrust. Additionally, the newly found love for SUVs among buyers is also expected to bring smiles at the Hyundai outlets.

Moreover, some of the Mumbai dealerships have started inviting prospective buyers to have a look at the new Tucson, which is there for homologation. The bookings are expected to commence in a week or two.

After launching the all-new Elantra last month, Hyundai seems to have eyes tucked on the 10 lakh plus market. With the grand success of its Creta SUV, the carmaker looks to capture more share in the UV space. The new Tucson will be placed in between the Creta and the Santa-Fe.

Speaking of its engine, the Tucson will be getting a powerful 2.0-litre diesel engine, which is currently being offered in its international models. This motor churns out 185PS of top power and 400Nm of torque. An automatic transmission is also expected to make way in the diesel version besides the manual one.

Defying earlier reports about it being made available only in the diesel avatar, the new Tucson will also be getting a petrol engine. This will be the 2.0-litre motor that debuted in the new Elantra, and generates 152PS of max power and 192Nm of peak torque. Reports also suggest that the engine and gear ratios might be tweaked to suit the SUV.

With its fluidic looks and powerful engines, this SUV looks all set to disturb sales figures of its rivals such as the Honda CR-V, Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. After its aggressive pricing with the new Elantra, we expect the price of the new Tucson to range in between Rs 20-25 lakh.
