As soon as Bharat director Ali Abbas Zafar sent out a cryptic tweet of Priyanka Chopra exiting his film in the Nick of time, fans around the world were taken off-guard with the announcement. Priyanka’s wedding was a national affair with even the Prime Minister Narendra Modi attending one of the receptions, the only person unhappy with her decision is Salman Khan.

The actor has gone all out in condemning her nuptials to American singer Nick Jonas and with more and more statements pouring in, Salman may have a storm of unhappy female fans coming his way. Khan who is unmarried has time and again emphasised on the fact that Priyanka left his film for marriage.

In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Salman said, “Look, she did the right thing. She did what she wanted, and Katrina got what she deserved. She (Priyanka) informed us five days before the schedule was supposed to start… she must have thought that in this way I would get upset with her and will never work with her. She spoke to me saying, ‘Nick (American actor-singer Nick Jonas) has proposed to me and I want to get married, so there will be some date issues’. I said, ‘Sure, get married, we can adjust those two, three days. Then she said that she does not want to do the film. Usually, some people say ‘Shaadi ek saal baad karenge, abhi ye picture kar lete hai (I’ll get married in one year, I’ll do this film first)’. But she chose to get married which I think is outstanding.”

Let’s be real, does Salman Khan really have a say in someone’s personal decision? It hints a subtle sexist hold on this situation where he (Salman) has the ultimate say and nobody gets to say ‘NO’ to him for any reason whatsoever. The fact that Salman wishes to impose his side on how one would get married after their work commitment are signs of him being absolutely irrational and dominating on the work front. The sarcasm that calls her wedding ‘outstanding’ suggests that everyone needs to follow his bandwagon of not getting married when it comes to allegedly life changing opportunities. Isn’t that what Katrina is doing?

It didn’t just end there. “Usually, people leave their husbands for films like these”, he added. Really Salman? It is highly demeaning to say that people would leave their husbands for a film like Bharat. Call it a joke or a sarcastic comment, but to drag the personal choice of an actress who has achieved way beyond any of her contemporaries in life, clearly shows the lack of humility.
