The resignation of Priyanka Chaturvedi, a spokeswoman of the Congress Party is bound to force the party on the back foot, at least on the nightly `tu-tu, mein-mein` shouting contests on various television channels. She till yesterday was a fierce defender of the party despite its rights and wrongs.
However, she embarrassed the leadership no end by pointing out how the very people who had sought to molest her recently were brought back into the party. In the age of #MeToo it should raise the cockles of even those who make it their business to rave and rant against the Modi Sarkar, unless, of course, sexual harassment merits condemnation only if the suspect belongs to the ruling party.
In her resignation letter sent to party chief Rahul Gandhi expressed frustration that even though she was on party duty when she was set upon by party goons, readmitting them back into the party was an affront which she could not bear. But by immediately joining the Shiv Sena, Chaturvedi detracted from her complaint against her old party.
Probably, it could be argued, she was angling for something from the Congress which on not being given made her dump it on the excuse of the return of the goons into the party fold, and for her to immediately jump on the Sena bandwagon in her home city of Mumbai. There is more than meets the eye in the resignation drama.
