CHOGM and Tamil welfare
The main demand for our boycott of CHOGAM at Colombo from 15th November has come from AIADMK and DMK. However these Tamil parties did not speak a word against the Sri Lankan military’s onslaught against the LTTE during the final stage of the campaign, when Sri Lankan Tamils suffered most. If Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is not attending the CHOGAM, India would have to forfeit the special advantage it enjoys in the Tamil affairs as a global geo-political player. India’s absence at the CHOGAM will push Sri Lanka into the Chinese influence. Presently India has a tactical partnership with Sri Lanka in the Indian Ocean Region. Our absence at the CHOGAM will send wrong signal to Sri Lanka and China will take the advantage to have better access to this region. In this context Dr. Singh would be able to achieve substantial advantages to promote the welfare of Tamils, if he attends the Colombo meeting.

PM should not skip CHOGM
Instead of the Prime Minister boycotting the CHOGM, India should rather vigorously take up with the UN the issue of atrocities on Tamils in Sri Lanka directly and under patronage of Sri Lankan authorities in a bid to end the atrocities on minority Tamils.
Recently released video-clipping of a Sri Lankan female TV anchor being mercilessly shot after being stripped is not the only such incident. Earlier also a mentally-weak Tamil civilian was mercilessly drowned in sea by Sri Lankan police. TV visuals regularly show execution of Tamil civilians by Sri Lankan police.

Not a bolt from the blue
The CBI is neither a constitutional body nor a statutory authority. It was established by just a resolution of the Ministry of Personnel (presently Ministry of HRD). It derived its powers to investigate like the Police from the pre-independence Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, 1946. Its original jurisdiction was Union Territories only. Subject to concurrence of the State Govts it can investigate in State matters also. There was no Parliamentary enactment behind its establishment, not to speak of Constitutional status. Yet so long it acted reasonably according to Indian standard. But during the UPA regime it started acting brazenly throwing all sense of shame to the winds as it is now “a caged parrot”. The Gauhati HC’s order is not a bolt from the blue. Had the CBI director been a statutory authority it would have been little difficult to use it so shamelessly.

Sachin stands tall in retirement
The Maharashtra Government is planing a fitting farewell to the son of the soil. It appears to be a gala function to remember Sachin for years to come. The farewell function will mark the end of a long and illustrious career of master-blaster. We need a compact and technically equipped batsman in the place of Sachin Tendulkar to occupy No 4 spot. Sachin’s spot was such an important one. We look forward to a gracious farewell to the superstar of Indian cricket.

Shami’s dream debut
The sun really shone on both Shami and Sharma who made dream Test debuts at the Eden Gardens against the West Indies, helping Team India to win majestically by an innings and 51 runs. Mohammad Shami is the most outstanding bowler in our pace-battery for his immacculate length and consistency. His off-cutters are highly penetrative and are sure to knock down the stumps if missed and his 9 wicket haul for the match is truly remarkable. Rohit Sharma has been in tremendous form in the ODIs and his coming into the test team, though after a long wait of six years, augurs well for Indian cricket.

Rohit’s ton on debut
A ton on debut is special & Rohit Sharma stamped his authority on the Test scene with an brilliant 177 in Tendulkar’s penultimate Test at Eden Gardens to signal that he is good enough to get into Sachin’s shoes. Rohit Sharma used the historic setting to perfection & his match winning ton was dedicated to the Little Master. R Ashwin too must be complemented for his 2nd Test ton & his record partnership with Rohit.
Team India looks solid as ever & we are today the best batting side in the world in all forms of cricket.

Tomato tops price list
There is a steep increase in vegetable prices for sometime now. Usually, the vegetable prices come down drastically during winter season. But this time around the prices are soaring. After onion, now it is the turn of tomato to top the price chart. The DA is increased marginally and at the same time the soaring prices of vegetables is a cause for worry. If this trend persists for some more time, the situation will go from bad to worse. Despite the fact that there is wholesale market in Sanpada still prices are sky rocketing in the last couple of weeks.

NaMo waves `khooni panja’
Narendra Modi, while addressing a Chattisgarh rally waved his open palm reportedly warning the audience of the ‘khooni panja’. This, perhaps, is a belated riposte to being called ‘maut ka saudagar’. It seems our politicians seeking to win the elections are busy trying to strip each other in public and the thousands or lakhs of people gathered are there as mere props in this grand drama while the ambitious politicians bicker among themselves over their heads! If only the NOTA button carried some weight!!!!!!
