CBI re-entry in Andhra Pradesh: What does this mean for Chandrababu Naidu? |

Andhra Pradesh recently welcomed their new CM Jaganmohan Reddy’s decision to all CBI's re-entry. It is a paradox move to the previous TDP government under Chandrababu Naidu that had withdrawn CBI’s involvement when it came to investigating matters in the state. Naidu had alleged that the establishment followed orders of the BJP led NDA government. "Democracy is at stake, secularism in danger, economy collapsed, institutions are destroyed, Centre-state relations have deteriorated", Naidu had said at a public event in 2018. Headlines back in 2018 suggested that Naidu fears being exposed for being accused of scams. Does the former CM need to fear this comeback?

For a long time CBI is considered as the toy for the ruling government to use on opposition. Other than Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal and Chhattisgarh have also barred CBI from infiltrating matters that need probe. Over the years, the chronicles that revolve around this consent are due to politicians being accused of wrongdoings, who wish to get the agency out of their hair. CBI is helpless if the state police is not at aid while investigating and hence is handicapped.

After Naidu broke his alliance with BJP, several raids were ordered on TDP leaders by the central agencies. The withdrawal of consent took place after Naidu joined hands with Congress. Reports suggest that allegations levelled against CBI playing under the hands of BJP is just a masqueraded move to hide the scams that took place under the reign of Naidu.

Naidu, his wife, son and daughter-in law have been under the scrutiny of the CBI over corruption, illegal amassment of wealth, property, favours for friends, bribing and more such allegations made under PILs, complaints filed by opposition and probe administered by Andhra Pradesh High Court. "Chandrababu banned CBI and he prevented IT raids. He questioned how ED comes in the state. Now Jagan has issued orders allowing the CBI into the state. CM made it clear that thieves will not be spared. Look out Chandrababu," YSRCP leader Vijaysai Reddy had said in a series of tweets.

With an array of cases pending, CBI’s re-entry can be fatal for Naidu’s career and wealth in the coming days. As if the dethroning wasn’t enough, this will probably take away his sleep if proven guilty.
