IMC Seizes 2.5 Tonnes Of Illegal Polythene, Imposes ₹1 Lakh Fine In Indore

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has taken swift action against illegal trade of non-standard polythene by seizing 2.5 tonnes of the banned material and imposing a spot fine of Rs 1 lakh on a shop in the New Lohamandi area on Monday.

The IMC team had received prior information about the arrival of the consignment and spent the entire day on Sunday waiting outside the warehouse of a logistic firm in New Lohamandi to take necessary action. However, the goods were delayed and arrived late at night.

As soon as the warehouse opened on Monday morning, the IMC team initiated the operation and confiscated approximately 80 to 100 sacks of polythene, totalling around 2.5 tonnes. Health Officer Gautam Bhatia confirmed that the seized polythene was sourced from Gujarat and was being distributed in Indore and its surrounding areas.

As per the IMC's policy, in cases involving banned plastic products, the entire stock is confiscated, and a spot fine of Rs 1 lakh is levied immediately. This operation is part of the ongoing efforts by the IMC to curb the trade of non-standard polythene and enforce ban on plastic products in the city.
