Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The six vultures, which have taken birth at Kerwa-based Vulture Conservation Breeding Centre, would be released into the wild soon.
They will be tagged with GPS equipment which will help in knowing that what is their behaviour pattern in jungles and how do they react on confronting wild vultures. This will be for the first time in the history of Madhya Pradesh that captive breed vultures are going to be released into the wild.
Four of them are long billed vultures and two are white rumped vulture. The age of four vultures is four years old and two vultures are eight to six years old. ‘It is the first batch of vultures from Vulture Conservation Breeding Centre which is going to be released into the jungle.
They will be released at Halali Dam area. We have examined the health of all six vultures and all of them are healthy,’ an officer of the forest department said. He added that as all six vultures will be tagged with GPS equipment and their movement into the jungle will be closely watched.
This will help in knowing that how they survive in the wild and what are the challenges they would be possibly encountering. How long they will take to adapt to the wild conditions.

Meanwhile, the villagers will be made aware that if they spot any ailing vulture (released vultures) or they see vultures in group then they shall pass the information immediately to the forest team. The team will rush to the spot and will take stock of the situation.
Van Vihar Director Avdesh Meena told Free Press that, ‘After the release of six vultures in the wild, their behaviour would be studied in a minute manner’. Sources said that six captive breed vultures will be released in presence of Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, Wildlife Subhranjan Sen and other senior forest officers.
