London: Two FIFA vice presidents are among seven officials who were arrested on corruption charges in Switzerland following an extradition request by the US, authorities said. One person was arrested later during the day after six were detained in the morning.
The authorities concerned have ordered the blocking of accounts at several Swiss banks “through which bribes are claimed to have flowed”, a statement from the Swiss Federal Office of Justice said.
Those who have been arrested include vice presidents Eugenio Figueredo and Jeffrey Webb. The other FIFA executives are Eduardo Li, Jose Maria Marin, and Julio Rocha. Two other football officials are Costas Takkas from Britain and Rafael Esquivel from Venezuela.
