Islamabad: A joint sitting of the Pakistani Parliament on Friday unanimously adopted a resolution condemning “Indian atrocities in Kashmir” and urged the world community to carry out an independent investigation into the alleged human rights violations in the valley.

The resolution was moved by Advisor to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaz Aziz, who also condemned the repeated ceasefire violations by India and applauded the unwavering commitment of the armed forces for the country’s defense, reports the News International.

A statement released after the joint session said, “The Joint Session of the Parliament recognizes the legitimacy of the indigenous struggle of the Kashmiri people for the realization of their right to self determination in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions and international law.”

“It strongly condemns the brutal use of force by the Indian occupation forces in the Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir,” it said.
