Beijing: Chinese police have arrested 15,000 people and ordered the removal of over 1.90 lakh illegal online items featuring violence, obscenity and gambling under a six-month campaign to combat online criminal activities. Police have arrested over 15,000 suspects of online crime and suspended a number of network service providers, advertising agencies and hackers, the Ministry of Public Security said in a statement.

The removal is part of a six-month campaign which began in July to combat “online criminal activities,” the statement was quoted as saying by state-run Xinhua news agency. The action also targets online sabotage attacks, website hacking, fraud and financial crimes.
