Also known as ‘People’s President’ and ‘Missile Man of India’ Dr APJ Abdul Kalam was born on October 15, 1931 at Rameshwaram in Tamil Nadu. He was felicitated with Padma Bhushan (1981), the Padma Vibhushan (1990), and Bharat Ratna (1997). In 2002, he was elected as the 11th President of India and served the term till 2007. After serving a term as the President, he returned to what he always liked ‘teaching’. Tragically, Dr Kalam passed away while delivering a lecture at the IIM Shillong. In 2010, the United Nations declared his birth anniversary as ‘World Student’s Day’. He has been a source of inspiration throughout his life. 2017 marks the 87th birth anniversary of Dr Kalam.
