5 Miss India winners who made it big!


Every year, thousands of girls from all walks of life participate in the battle of beauty and brain to win the conveted title of ‘Miss India’. These girls have Sushmita Sen and Aishwarya Rai as their role models, dream of living glamorous live and opting for modelling or acting. The title is launching pad for many to make a name in the glamorous industry. Some of the winners have managed to become successful and make their name an serves as an inspiration for many. Here is a list of five such divas.


Nutan Behl
Popularly known as Nutan, the legendary actress won the Miss India title in 1952. Nutan is regarded as one of the finest film actress in the history of Indian cinema. In a career of over four decades she has given several blockbusters and had won several Filmfare awards for her performances. She has also been felicitated with the Padma Shri in 1974 for her contribution to Indian cinema. She started her career as a child artist at the age of 14 in the film ‘Hamari Beti’.

Juhi Chawla
Bubbly and vivacious Juhi won the Miss India title in 1984. She has been winning hearts since then. One of the successful actress Bollywood is blessed with, she has tried and nailed all kinds of roles in her acting career.

Sushmita Sen
Sushmita Sen is the first Indian to win the Miss Universe title in 1994, at the age of 19. She has not only established herself as a successful actress in Bollywood but also showed her mettle as a woman by becoming single-mother for her two adopted daughters. She went on to become a successful actor, producer and entrepreneur.

Aishwarya Rai
Aishwarya Rai is the second Indian to win the Miss World title. Today, she is the one of the few most recognised Indian faces globally and has truly lived her title ‘Miss World’. Over the years, she has been felicitated with several awards and nominations including the Padma Shri in 2009 by the Government of India and the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 2012 by the Government of France.

Priyanka Chopra
Priyanka Chopra is one of the most successful Miss India title holders till date. She is recognised as a diva not only in India but also internationally. PeeCee is one of the successful actress in Bollywood and is among the highest-paid actresses in Bollywood. She is the last Indian to be crowned Miss World in 2000 and Miss World Continental Queen of Beauty – Asia and Oceania, that too at the age of 18. She is also the fifth Indian to win the competition. It has been 17 years now, no Indian has been successful in winning the international contests. She is also a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for child’s rights.
