Ujjain: UMC recommences bus services

Ujjain: Ujjain Municipal Corporation (UMC) recommenced city bus services on Friday. Mayor Meena Jonwal flagged off buses and restarted bus services on some routes of the city. Buses were equipped with speed governance devices and fitness certificates.

Mayor Jonwal said 9 buses are presently plying on 3 routes. The rest of the routes will be covered soon, phase wise. Out of the 39 buses owned by the city transportation, the regional transportation office has granted fitness certificates for 20 buses, equipped with speed governance devices.

Bus services in the city had come to a standstill following expiry of contract with Earth Connect two months back. The new contract was conferred to Dilraj Singh Gandhi, but the RTO granted fitness certificates only after installation of speed governance devices which took about a month and a half.


Resumption of services was marked by a flagging off ceremony which apart from the mayor was participated by members of mayor in council, Satyanarayan Chouhan, Mangilal Kadel, Durga Choudhary, Nilurani Khatri, Karuna Jain, additional municipal commissioner Vishal Singh Chouhan, general manager of the company Sunil Jain, vehicle in-charge Umesh Singh Bais and other public representatives. Vishal Singh Chouhan said the remaining 30 buses would ply soon, to make public conveyance easy.
