Ujjain: Theft at Bada Udaseen Akhara, Rs 75,000 stolen

Ujjain: In a sensational incident, some unidentified people took away cash amounting to Rs 75, 000 from the Panchayati Akhara Bada Udaseen, early on Thursday.

Mahakal police said, the incident occurred between 6.30 pm and 7 pm at Akhara manager Shyamdas Maharaj’s room, near Ram Ghat, on the banks of river Kshipra. At the time of the incident, the mahant was taking a walk within the premises itself. The thieves apparently got into his room located on the second story during this time, jumping over the Akhara’s boundary wall.

The police reached the Akhara and gathered primary information from inmates of the Akhara and neighbours. The thieves did not touch anything in the room but took away the cash, after breaking the almirah. A case under Section 454 and 380 of the IPC has been registered.

Meanwhile, reliable sources informed that the police took into custody Deepak, who was sacked from the Akhara three to four months ago, following misconduct. On being contacted, mahant Shyamdas said though he did not mention anybody’s name in the FIR, involvement of a person or persons familiar with Akhara affairs could be ruled out.
