Ujjain: To celebrate Indian culture and mark the beginning of the Hindu new year, a 7-day event ‘Vikramotsava’ will be organised by the Ujjain administration and culture department of Madhya Pradesh from March 22 to 28.
Various cultural programmes will be conducted and the ‘Vikram Alankaran’ award will be given in nine categories. In the playback singing category, singer Sudesh Bhonsle will be awarded a memento, citation and a cheque of Rs 1 lakh during the main event of the Utsav on the banks of river Kshipra on March 27.
A press conference was conducted on Sunday, where chairman of organizing committee MLA Mohan Yadav said final preparations of various cultural programmes to be held during the Utsav is being carried out. Meetings have been conducted in Bhopal and Ujjain by the organizing committee.
The highlight of the event will be the play on the life of the king Vikramaditya that will be conducted on the premises of Jaal Sewa Niketan School, Freeganj. Seating arrangements for thousands of people is being organised by the committee.
