Ujjain: Nanakheda wakes up to toxic smoke from chemical waste

Ujjain: Unknown miscreants set fire to chemical waste on Monday morning polluting the whole of Nanakheda area in Vidyapatinagar, covering it with black soot. Early morning walkers reported breathing problems and experienced bouts of cough due to smoke emanating from the harmful waste.

Smoke hovered over Krishna Park Colony, Adinath Colony, Ekata Nagar and many other colonies in the area. According to reliable sources, a large quantity of harmful chemical waste was also set on fire on Monday morning at Dewas Road near Jagruti Dhaba.

On being informed, the firefighters reached the spot of the incident and extinguished the fire. Officials of Nanakaheda police station took stock of the situation at both places but were clueless about the people involved. No evidence has been given against any one and search for the guilty is on.


“It did not appear to be intentional. However,local police station has been asked to keep tight vigil.”
