50 MSW students declared ineligible to take PhD entrance exam
Ujjain: Vikram University premises was a scene of absolute commotion on Monday, as at least 50 students of MSW stream were disallowed to take the PhD entrance examination in Sociology organized by the university.
According to university information,700 seats of the PhD entrance examination was organised by the university, in which around 1200 students appeared.Despite the documents being thoroughly checked, 50 MSW students were declared ineligible for the entrance examination by school of studies in Sociology head Jyoti Upadhyay who maintained that MSW students could not take a PhD Sociology entrance exam.
The visibly angry students sought a written note from the university administration but their demandwasrejected. They approached university vice-chancellor Dr SS Pandey, only to be informed that they could not take the examination and that the confusion was due to a mistake on the part of MP online portal.The university, he said, had placed an advertisement inviting applications for the PhD entrance exams in Sociology and not MSW. All the documents were submitted on line and were verified at the examination center by the authorities. He added that the examination fee of these students would be refunded.
University proctor Dr Shailendra Sharma, admitting that the mistake was on the part of MP Online portal while publishing the advertisement, told Free Press that post graduation in Sociology was compulsory to appear for the PhD entrance examination in the subject. All documents were submitted online and so verification by the authorities can only be possible at the examination center, he added.
