Ujjain: Mahakal Bhakt Mandal observed a one day hunger strike at Dewasgate Square on Thursday demanding a roll back of the ‘bhasmaarti’ fee.

Mahakal Bhakt Mandal is also opposing the allotment of a sanitation contract worth Rs 3.5 crores, alleging nepotism in allotment. Arun Verma, Vivek Yadav, Mahendra Katiyar, Sita Soni, Chetan Thakkar, Manoj Shandilya and Raghav Bagadiya participated in the hunger strike.

District Congress Committee (urban) president Anantnarayan Meena, Batuk Shakar Joshi, Jay Singh Darbar, Rajendra Vashistha, Maya Trivedi, Rajendra Bharti, Ravi Rai, Yogesh Sharma, Deepak Mahere and other Congress leaders visited the venue and extended support. A functionary of Mahakal Bhakt Mandal, Arun Verma said that a wisdom march would be held if the ‘bhasmaarti’ fee was not revoked.
