Ujjain: Debt ridden farmer commits suicide


Ujjain: In a heartrending incident a debt ridden farmer committed suicide in Dhanda village (falling within Bhairavgarh police station limits) after receiving a bank notice for seizing his properties to square  up the loan taken by his father through the St Ravidas Awas Yojana from the Panbihar branch of  Bank of India .

According to family members Dinesh (35), returned home from Ujjain and after going through the bank notice, he committed suicide by hanging himself.  His brother Dharmendra was the first one to see him hanging in his room. On being informed, Bhairavgarh police reached his residence and took over the dead body of the farmer.

In his statement, the farther of the deceased, Madhosingh, said he had taken a loan of Rs 1.63 lakhs from Bank of India, which was currently Rs 1.93 lakh with interest. After 6 years, he received a notice from the bank for seizing his property to pay up the loan which was why his son Dinesh, took the extreme step. Bhairavgarh police registered a case and started the investigation.

Youth Congress stages dharna

District Youth Congress led by district head Hemantsingh Chouhan staged a dharna at the collector office, with the dead body of the farmer. Family members of the deceased were also present. According to Chouhan apart from the bank loan, the family also hadelectricity bill dues of Rs 20000.  He alleged that farmers were in trouble due to anti farmer’s policies of the State Government. According to Chouhan, many Congress leaders and farmers were present during the ‘dharna’.
