Ujjain: Education committee chairman, and zila panchayat vice-president, Bharat Porwal convened a meeting at the zila panchayat auditorium on Friday, on the issue of illegal liquor shops being operated on school premises in rural areas. Porwal issued strict directives to remove these shops at the earliest. He reprimanded officials of the health department for presenting wrong data related to health of school going children in rural areas and instructed them to conduct medical tests again.
Porwal ordered excise officers to stop sale of liquor on school premises within a month. The 67 zone principals, who were present in the meeting, were asked to conduct strict inspections at private schools. They were given a handbook on the code of education, and were asked to confirm that private schools met all criteria set by the education board like proper sports grounds and eligibility of teachers amongst others. Show cause notices were issued to sub divisional magistrates (SDM) of Ghatiya, Tarana, Barnagar, Mahidpur, Khachrod and Ujjain, joint director social justice department, women and child development officer and other officers who were absent from the meeting. In an event to be conducted on July 9, 400 teachers from the district will be felicitated.
