Ujjain: Crackdown on illegal cracker trade, huge stock seized

Ujjain: The administration took strict action against fire cracker shops in the city after a major fire broke out in one of the shops in Indore. The police and city administration thereafter launched raids at all fireworks shops on Wednesday.

The administration team lead by SDM Rani Bansal (probationer IAS) and CSP Sachin Sharma (probationer IPS), found huge stocks of fire crackers following a search operation. The team seized huge stocks of crackers from Badshah fireworks located at Nai Sadak area and Bapji fireworks at Juna Somwariya. The team also seized a vehicle loaded with fire crackers at Badshah Fireworks.

Currently there is a ban on the storage and sale of fire crackers by dealers according to which the shopkeeper must keep stock of crackers at a warehouse, located outside city limits. SDM Rani Bansal said 8 cracker shops in the city had been inspected and most of the shopkeepers were found selling crackers without licence. During the inspection, TI Kulwant Joshi and Tehsildar Sanjay Sharma were also present.
