Ujjain: A number of Congress leaders staged a dharna in front of SP chamber on Tuesday morning to protest police failure to nab an accused who tried to molest a woman of Ashok Nagar district on Sunday night.
Congress corporator Maya Trivedi led the dharna. She said that the state had witnessed a steep rise in cases of crime against women. As a result, the women were feeling unsafe. Trivedi, who also met the victim, alleged that police were yet to initiate investigation in the case. She also demanded action against Mahila Thana TI Rekha Verma and other officials for forcing the victim to sit in police station throughout the night.
Later, Zila Panchayat president Mahesh Parmar, Pradesh Congress Committee secretary Chetan Yadav, Block Congress Committee president Shravan Sharma and others reached the dharna scene to support Maya Trivedi. SP Sachin Atulkar also reached there and invited them for talks. Following his assurance, Congress leaders called off their dharna.
