Ujjain: Angered by SS Gupta hospital management demanding Rs 45,000 from a deceased’s kin, Congress men led by Madhav Nagar block Congress committee president Ajeetsingh Thakur handed over a memorandum addressed to collector to tehsildar Sudeep Meena.

Thakur said that sometimes patient’s family takes loan for treatment and even then proper treatment is not given. He said that Congress urged district administration to have a control on arbitrariness of the private hospitals so that they do not exploit poor people.

Reading the memorandum, District Congress Committee president Anantnarayan Meena said that the government should publicly display the price list of all tests done in a nursing home. “Collector should also make a committee which will display the information about the financial help provided by government to poor people. This committee should also make sure that all the machines in the hospital or nursing home are run on the guidelines provided by the government”, he added.

Meena said that every private hospital or nursing home runs their own medical shop inside the hospital, which does not follow the guidelines set by government. He requested collector to make sure that a notice is displayed outside such shops that there is no compulsion to buy medicines from these shops only. Also, there should be transparency in the medical equipments used by the hospital during an operation.

Meena demanded that an investigation committee should be made to keep a check on private hospitals or nursing homes as they intentionally do operation for child birth as the cost of operation sums up to Rs 60,000. He demanded that if a patient dies mid treatment or due to the carelessness of the doctor, the hospital should not demand any money and must hand over the body to its family. Hafiz Qureshi, Vivek Yadav, Bharat Porwal, Deepak Mehre, Sunderlal Malviya and Atmaram Malviya were present on this occasion.
