Ujjain: Krishnapal, a deaf kid from hamlet of Badagaon, 50 km from here was blessed with a new life after a cochlear implant. The little boy benefitted under the welfare schemes implemented by the government.
A cochlear implant is an electronic medical device that replaces the function of the damaged inner ear. Unlike hearing aids, which make sounds louder, cochlear implants bypass the damaged hair cells of the inner ear (cochlea) to provide sound signals to the brain. Doctors posted under the National Child Health Programme visited the village and diagnosed the child’s problem. He was then referred to the district immediate intervention centre at the district hospital. This centre cures the 30 types of diseases which the children of the age group 0 to 18 suffer from.
Programme manager Dinesh Malviya said the child underwent free tests at Bhopal hospital and they benefitted under the Chief Minister Child Hearing Scheme. A fund of Rs 6.5 lakh was approved for the same. The surgery was performed at Divya ENT Advance Clinic on June 8.
