Ujjain: The royal procession of the deity of Mahakal for the holy months of Kartik and Agahan was taken out with grandeur in the city on Monday. Lord Mahakaleshwar or Chandramouleshwar paid a visit to devotees in the city in agorgeously adorned silver palanquin. Devotees paid obeisance to the deity showering petals, the air reverberating with chants of ‘Jai Shree Mahakal’.
The deity was worshipped at the Sabha Mandap by additional collector Jayant Joshi and administrator RajnishKasera. The procession commenced at 4 pm after the palanquin was taken out of the temple. Armed forces paid a guard of honour to the deity of Chandramouleshwar at the entrance of the temple. The procession then reached Ramghat, where the deity had a ‘jalabhishek’, with sacred water.
The procession then proceeded towards Gandharvaghat, Gangaur Darwaza, Modh Dharamshala, Kartik Chowk, KhatiKa Mandir, Dhaba Road, Tanki Chouraha, Naimbeg Marg, Kanthal, Sathigate, Sarafa, Chhatri Chowk, Gopal Mandir, Patni Bazaar, Gudri Square and concluded at the temple. Citizens assembled on either side of the procession route and waited for hours to catch a glimpse of their favourite deity.
