Ujjain: BJP, RSS leaders assaulted over land dispute, sons of Congress leader detained

Ujjain: RSS leader and Central Simhastha Fair Organising Committee member, Vibhash Upadhyaya and former director of Ujjain Development Authority (UDA), Mukesh Joshi and another person sustained severe injuries when a mob of about half a dozen people openly attacked them with weapons, here on Monday evening. Land dispute is stated to be the reason for the attack. Police have arrested two of the main accused in the case.

The incident occurred at around 5.30 pm near the office of the registrar (property), located in front of the Pollution Control Board office at Bharatpuri. The victim and the accused parties were present there. The argument started over a piece of land at Hasampura, near Chintaman Ganesh Mandir, on which the Ahmedabad-based Swaminarayan Mandir Trust has been constructing an eye hospital. The hospital is the second of its kind in the country after Ahmedabad. The bhumi-pujan for the mega project was done during last February 11.

According to reliable sources, about 6.50 ‘bigha’ land belonged to Nitiraj Singh Solanki and he  had registered 3.50 ‘bighas’ of  land in favour of Vibhash Upadhyaya, Mukesh Joshi, Anand Mohan Pandya and others in the year 2013. Solanki had also made a similar agreement on the same land with Rituraj Singh Chauhan, son of Maan Singh Chauhan and his brother Pushpraj Singh Chauhan. Meanwhile, construction work for the eye hospital also began recently on the land donated by Upadhyaya, Joshi, Pandya and others.

Chauhan brothers, the main accused, whose father is an Employees Congress leader, were  peeved over the construction of the eye hospital on the land, which they claimed was owned by them. The affected party however said they had purchased the land from the owner and had registered and donated it for the cause. The Chauhan brothers had recently served a legal notice to the affected party recently which turned violent on Monday evening. Both parties were  present at the proceedings of the case when they started assaulting each other.

The accused, who were in 5 to 7 in numbers, first beat up Upadhyaya, Joshi and Pandya severely. They then attacked them with iron rods and knives. This continued for at least half an hour. All the three injured persons were taken to the Civil Hospital by the Madhav Nagar police authorities. Barring Pandya, the other two victims were shifted to the ICU at about 9 pm.

SP Manohar Verma, ASPs Vinayak Verma (city) and Rajesh Sahay (crime) along with other officers reached the civil Hospital and patiently heard the victims out. BJP divisional organising secretary Pradeep Joshi, city unit chief Iqbal Singh Gandhi, UDA chairman Jagdish Agrawal,  Municipal Speaker Sonu Gehlot and others also reached the hospital and enquired about the condition of victims. Besides top RSS functionaries, some ministers from the Union and State government also spoke to the senior officers about the incident.

Meanwhile, main accused Rituraj Singh Chauhan and his brother Pushpraj Singh Chauhan reached the Madhav Nagar police station claiming their innocence. The police did not entertain their pressure tactics to register an FIR. They were detained by the police and a massive manhunt was launched to nab the rest. TI Mahendra Singh Parmar told Free Press that the victims had sustained severe injuries on head, shoulders and thighs and that it was a pre meditated attack. A case has been registered under Section 307, 147 & 148.
