Ujjain: Bhoomi pujan of swimming pool held in old city

Ujjain: Bhoomi pujan of a new swimming pool, being built behind the Ujjain Municipal Corporation (UMC) office on Agar Road at a cost of Rs 8.52 crore, was organised on Sunday. The chief guest of the programme was Energy minister Paras Jain.

This fully equipped swimming pool is being built along with commercial complex in UMC premises under the Ujjain Smart City Project. The pool is being built with international standards in mind where swimmers will be able to hone their talents for various competitions at the district, state, national as well as international level.

 The 50 meters long and 25 meter wide swimming pool will be built in an area of 15000 sq m. A pool for small children which will be 12 meters long and 10 meters wide will also be built in this campus. UMC engineer Hans Kumar Jain said that the pool will be given a heritage look and will also have reception, shower, lockers, changing rooms, viewing gallery, ticket counter and gym-sauna.


Giving the welcome speech, Gehlot said that the pool will be a boon for the citizens and will also hold swimming competitions from time to time. Minister Jain instructed the construction company to make the pool so well that people from Indore would wish to take a dive in it. He also said that it should be ensured that proper security arrangements are made and the construction of the pool will be completed as soon as possible.

While expressing gratitude to the Minister Paras Jain, Mayor said that this work could not be done without his support and efforts. She also said that earlier Ujjain swimmers had to go to Indore swimming pool to prepare for the competition but not after this swimming pool is built. She also informed that construction of yoga hall, cafeteria and walking lawn were also being considered.

Mayor Meena Jonwal presided over the programme. Member of Parliament Dr Chintamani Malviya, MLA Dr Mohan Yadav, Commissioner Municipal Corporation Dr Vijay Kumar J, Ujjain Development Authority (UDA) chairman Jagdish Agarwal, Divakar Natu, Iqbal Singh Gandhi, Ashok Prajapat, Kishore Khandelwal, UMC speaker Sonu Gehlot, Ramchandra Korat, Pradeep Pandey, Vishal Rajoria and other dignitaries including office bearers of Swimming Association were present on this occasion.
