Ujjain: Shravan-mahotsav, a yearly programme of classical music and dance organized by Mahakal Temple Management Committee (MTMC) dedicated to lord Mahakal, began with a scintillating jugalbandi of Veena by Pt Vishwa Mohan Bhatt and his son Salil Bhatt. Pt Vijayram Das and Vaibhav Das from Ayodhya rendered performace on Pakhawaj.
The programme began with traditional lamp lighting by guests and organizers before the portrait of lord Mahakal followed by a recitation of ‘swasti’ by children. An exhibition showcasing memories of last 13 years of Shravan mahotsav was also held which was inaugurated by Avdheshpuri, Pt Vijayram Das, SS Rawat and Preeti Chouhan of MTMC.
In the first phase, Pt Vijayram Das and his son Vaibhav Das gave a mesmerizing performance on Pakhawaj starting with Ganesh vandana composed by his guru Pagaldasji. Then, another composition of his guru, ‘Mahakal Param’ was rendered followed by ‘Panchdev stuti’. Bandish in jhaptaal, rela-vaadan, ‘padaal’ and ‘layikari’ was presented by the duo. Kiran Devi accompanied on harmonium and Sangeeta Vyas on tanpura.
In second phase, Padma Bhushan and Grammy award winning Veena player Pt Vishwa Mohan Bhatt presented jugalbandi on Mohan Veena with his son Salil Bhatt on Satwik Veena. Their performance began with a rendition of raga ‘charukeshi’. Songs like Vande-matram, vaishnav janato and raghupati raghav were also presented. Himanshu Mahant on tabla accompanied the duo.
